I upgraded my ham shack computer to accommodate the new SDR Flex radios so I wanted the fastest system that I could put together. I used the following parts for my system:

bullet ASUS P8Z68-V Pro/Gen 3
bullet Intel Quad core i7-3770T 3.5 GHz processor
bullet16 Gig of memory max of 32 gig
bulletNivda GeForce GT-630
bullet Cooler master case
bulletCooler master 800 watt power supply
bullet Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO CPU cooler
bullet256 gig solid state disk drive SATA III C drive
bullet2 TB disk drive SATA III
bulletASUS CD/DVD drive BW-12B1ST (read/writes CD/DVD)
bulletASSU CD/DVD drive DRW-24B1ST (read/writes CD/DVD & BluRay)
bulletWindows 7 64 bit

My previous system was 2.5 GHz quad core with 8 gig of memory. When I rad my SDR software the CPU utilization was 60% and higher. My new system has a 8 to 10% utilization. I run 2 monitors off my GeForce card. I elected not to use the internal video system because of dual monitor issues. I used a big heat sink and fan because this CPU heats up and the fan Intel provided was not enough.

This motherboard is loaded with SATA III, USB 3.0, just about everything you could want in a computer. The Cooler Master case is very well built as is their power supply and CPU cooler.

I also run Ububtu 14.04 in dual boot 64 bit system, runs like a charm. Maybe one day I can shed my Windos operating system for Ubuntu. I already have an Ubuntu server running 14.04 64 bit server edition with Apache, MySQL5, PHP, SSH and much more. I hope to bring it online this summer and shut down my power hungry Dell server.

I will develop another page devoted to low cost powerful computers and servers.
